What was the Search for Hidden Figures, and where do I find out who won?
Our contest is now closed, but it was open to girls and women of all backgrounds who were under-recognized for their STEM passion and big ideas for a brighter world. We received more than 7,000 applications and, with the help of our esteemed panel of judges, proudly awarded two grand prize winners and 10 runners-up with cash prizes and more to pursue education or research in STEM. You can meet our winners and learn all about them here.
What were the prizes?
Just for entering, all applicants received access to exclusive New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) bootcamp content.
Additionally, 25 semi-finalists from our Junior track received admission to the NYAS Junior Academy, while 25 semi-finalists from our Professional track received free one-year professional memberships to the NYAS. All semi-finalists also received four complimentary tickets each to the Hidden Figures film.
From our pool of semi-finalists, ten runners-up (five from each of our two tracks) were selected by our panel of all-star judges to receive $10,000 each, along with a hometown screening of the film Hidden Figures.
One grand prize winner from each of our two tracks each received a complimentary trip for two to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and $50,000 to further their work in STEM.
You can read about our grand prize winners and runners-up here.
I entered, but wasn’t selected as a semi-finalist. What’s next for me?
First, thank you for your submission! Please know you were among a huge pool of entries and our decision was extremely difficult. You should be proud of yourself for sharing your passion for STEM—we sure are!

What does PepsiCo have to do with STEM?
With a global R&D investment of $750 million across agricultural, product, packaging, equipment and processing – areas that require a wide breadth of STEM skills – PepsiCo has a strong commitment to increasing the job readiness of prospective STEM professionals.
As demand for STEM professionals has grown, a shortage of STEM candidates has emerged. Projections indicate that by 2018 there could be 2.4 million unfilled STEM jobs in the U.S. alone.¹ And although women make up 48% of the workforce, they hold only 23% of the STEM positions.2 By helping more women launch their STEM careers, we can make major strides in solving the STEM job gap, and strengthen our collective future.
This movie looks awesome–when does it come out?
We think so too! Hidden Figures premiered in theaters everywhere January 6, 2017. Watch the trailer and get exclusive content on the official movie website, and follow their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for more!
